Lake Gwelup /

In 2024 Artify was engaged by City of Stirling to commission artists David Jones and Emily Rose for the Lake Gwelup artwork project.

Our team facilitated an immersive two-day workshop at Scape-ism, where artists Emily Rose and David Jones explored design approaches for the Lake Gwelup public artwork project, in collaboration with the City of Stirling. This workshop provided the artists a focused environment to dive into groundplane design applications, envisioning how their artwork could enhance the space both visually and culturally.

At the heart of the creative process were cultural stories shared by Preston Culbong, Cultural Knowledge holder. His insights provided a powerful foundation for the artists, allowing them to thoughtfully respond to Noongar heritage and cultural narratives connected to the Lake Gwelup area. These stories inspired the artistic direction, guiding the creation of concepts that strengthen the public’s connection to the land and its history.

Throughout the workshop, Emily Rose and David Jones worked closely together, exchanging ideas and refining their designs with the guidance of design mentor Jahne Rees from Scapeism. This collaboration resulted in a compelling fusion of culture, creativity, and functionality, with the final artworks will reflecting the cultural significance of the site while meeting practical requirements.
